For a show about vampires, A Discovery of Witches is relatively light on blood and gore. Its undead creatures are civilised types, more likely to be found sipping a 1982 Latour than fang-deep in a carotid artery. That all changed this week, as season two took a 21st century detour with a police thriller slant. A mystery vamp has been going to town on warm-bloods, and, hope Domenico and Gerbert, it could spell the end for the de Clermont dynasty....

Three dragons in the hands of an orphan girl was enough to change the course of Westeros forever on Game of Thrones. Daenerys Targaryen was the last of her royal line, with the blood of old Valyria running through her veins and, as she often told people, that made her the mother of dragons. With Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion at her beck and call, Daenerys went from a pauper princess to a power broker, conquering the powerful Free Cities of Astapor, Yunkai, and Meereen prior to flying to the next continent over and taking King’s Landing by force....

This, however, is not an actual example of Brit TV being terrifying, but one of a Thomas & Friends Halloween special which ended up with a slightly bizarre difference between its UK and US versions: Thomas and his fellow engine Emily are sent to the smelter’s yard for a nighttime collection of some iron, but get spooked by pranks set up by diesels Harry and Bert, and become convinced there’s a g-g-g-ghoooost!...

While we’re all waiting for better days when fans will be able to safely attend these events once more, it must be said that AGDQ 2021’s set-up did allow a greater variety of people to participate in the show remotely. Yoon Chan-young as Lee Cheong-san One of the many scene-stealers in the All of Us Are Dead cast is Yoon Chan-young, who plays the extremely nimble Lee Cheong-san. Yoon is one of the young members of this cast who is already an established performer, having worked as a child actor since 2013. The now 20-year-old has an extensive filmography that ranges from 2019’s coming-of-age drama Everything and Nothing to 2014’s Pluto Squad, a show about child detectives....

Altered Carbon Episode 4 In a rare stumble, Altered Carbon’s fourth episode contains both a retrospective torture bonanza and a family study of the emotional benefits and dangers of re-sleeving a departed loved one. Not only do the two stories feel inappropriately juxtaposed; they also each drag their message out over the full hour when half of that would have sufficed. The holiday setting was definitely fun, and trying to figure out how Kovacs would overcome his interrogator produced some enjoyable anticipation, but it felt as though this part of the ten-hour movie were being unnaturally forced into an episodic formula....

Starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as Takeshi Kovacs, whose memory (or “cortical stack”) has been placed in a new body (or “sleeve”) after serving 250 years of an eternal prison sentence, Altered Carbon follows the investigation for which Kovacs has been revived (or “spun up”): to find the murderer of Laurens Bancroft, played by James Purefoy (Hap and Leonard). Since Bancroft died before a 48-hour backup could be made of his consciousness, his new sleeve has no memory of the event....

“The market is crazy, as you saw with the Knives Out deal,” explains Salke. “This is a full season of a huge world-building show. The number is a sexy headline or a crazy headline that’s fun to click on, but that is really building the infrastructure of what will sustain the whole series.” “[It] is a crazy world and various people on this Zoom, mostly Bela [Netflix’s Bela Bejaria] and me, have been in bidding situations where it starts to go incredibly high,” confesses Salke....

Arrow Season 7 Episode 22 It’s hard to see tonight’s episode as anything other than a series finale. I know there’s a short half season and the crossover crisis, but in many ways it feels like tonight we said goodbye. And what a goodbye it was. Break out the tissues and let’s get into it. The first half of the episode was for plot business which was…fine, I guess? From a character growth standpoint, I’m glad Oliver realized (again) the more violence is not the answer and got through to his sister, although it still feels like such a wasted opportunity for her to die, after the wasted opportunity that was her arc this season....

In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you play as Eivor, a fearsome Viking in 873 AD who lost her parents in battle, a moment that left her literally scarred and hellbent on getting revenge against the warlord who slaughtered them. It’s important to note that the game gives you the choice to play as a male or female version of Eivor at the start of the game, but you’re also given a third option that allows the Animus to “choose” the gender for you based on the memory being recollected....

For those of you who don’t remember (and for those who prefer not to), Beetlejuice is not just a movie starring Michael Keaton in a blonde wig looking pervy. It was also an Emmy Award-winning cartoon in the early 1990s that aired on both ABC and Fox Kids simultaneously – six days out of the week, in fact. The name works both for the psychological adultery thriller that this Netflix adaptation presents as, and for the supernatural story it’s really telling. Because what’s behind her eyes, in this instance, is him. She is beautiful, wealthy Scottish heiress Adele, played by The Luminaries’ Eve Hewson. He is working class, Glaswegian heroin addict Rob, played by Game of Thrones’ Robert Aramayo....

Big Sky is the latest TV project from David E. Kelley, the prolific showrunner best known for shepherding series like Ally McBeal and Big Little Lies. It is based on a series of books by C.J. Box.
